PETE KING - singer songwriter

Pete is a singer/songwriter from Manchester England who has worked with a number of bands as a guitar player and/or songwriter, and later as a Producer/Writer with Lee Monteverde (LMC). He has also worked with Billy Ocean both in the UK and in the Far East and later with Boney M, Gloria Gaynor the Thompson Twins and even had a brief time working with Kylie Minogue and Bananarama. In 1999 he worked with Sister Sway who appeared on Top Of The Pops performing one of his songs reaching the last 3 of the UK’s choice for Eurovision. The song was called Until You Saved My Life, check it out on You Tube, and he also wrote a song called Open Your Eyes, which later become known as Eyeopener, which was a Dance record that appeared on a number of Compilation Cd’s, one of which went to No1, this is on YouTube too. Recently there has been some fresh and exciting interest in this song, as it has appeared in a new form on the latest Jason Derulo album Future History under the title Pick Up The Pieces. It just goes to show that once a record is “out there” it can take on a new life of its own and you can never predict what may happen! Currently he is recording an album of his own songs in the Folk Idiom. Can't wait to hear them.

Kiss the Blarney
The band is led by the singing of John and Arthur, supported  by John's  bass and guitar, ornamented by Arthur's fiddle, melodeon, mandolin, flute, accordion and sax and driven mightily along by Robbie’s guitar and banjo.  Oddly enough, we don't actually play all these instruments at the same time - a certain amount of pic'n'mix goes on which adds even more variety to the show! As well as the songs, dance tunes and airs drop in and out of the set - the band has a history of playing for ceilidhs and barn dances as well as shows where the songs predominate.
Belfast-born John was with Murphy's Marbles for 4  years, playing Tramore and Dungarvan Irish music festivals and the  famous Cheltenham Irish Week in the "Guinness Village" at the race  course for 3 years running. He played in the backing band for Sean Cannon of the  Dubliners when on tour. Both he and Arthur worked with the Cheshire ceilidh band Peak Folk for several years providing the music for ceilidhs and barn dances  where Arthur, as well as playing melodeon, called the dances in his own inimitable style.
Robbie plays guitar, banjo, mandolin and various other instruments with strings. This may lead to the occasional surprise, to the rest of the band as well as to the audience, but we savour creativity in all its forms..

Two lively and beautiful singer songwriters and great guitarists

Helen Turner and Sharon Winfield have been performing together since 2006. After discovering a shared love of folk and acoustic music they formed a duo 'over coffee' and soon realised their voices were meant to be together. Both bring distinctive songwriting styles to Union Jill and achieve some spellbinding effects with their voices and instruments. Playing across the country they have quickly gained a reputation for quality performances and well-crafted songs. Their onstage presence is natural, funny and personable and, whilst their material touches on the darker side of life at times, they enjoy using their music to tell stories – with banter you only get from two women sharing a stage. Their first two albums ‘One’ and 'Two', showcase Helen and Sharon’s flair for melody and harmonies. Collaborations with Ric Sanders (Fairport Convention) and Troy Donockley (Bad Shepherds) are featured on the second album. A third album is on the way - due to be released in Spring 2013. Produced by Clive Gregson and engineered by John Wood this album marks a significant development in Union Jill’s music.

Internationally famous Singer Songwriter -

p069 0 00 01

Allan writes many traveller's songs about his journey, real, fictitious or metaphorical and again and again the expression 'on the road' crops up. His songs and the voice are like the red wine that keeps getting mentioned and they are of astonishing maturity.

Allan Taylor always delivers masterpieces of song writing. Many other famous artists obviously think so and his songs have been recorded by such as Jez Lowe, Tom McConville, The Clancys, The Fureys, Barbara Dickson, Max Boyce, Alex Campbell, The Poozies, De Dannan, John Wright, Flossie and to cap it all Don Williams and Nana Mouskouri took It's good To See You Platinum Discs in the USA and Worldwide. It doesn't get any better then that.

And Allan did all that and more in a sublime evening which started with us marvelling at his singing and guitar work but ended with us revelling in his amazing songwriting, brilliantly observed, incredibly creative and beautifully crafted. With the exception of Banjo Man and It's Good To See You, the old favourites took a back seat and we were treated to his more recent work and it was true to say that this man gets better and better. Roll on the day when he returns to Sale Folk Club.

Both of them fine singers, they are delighted to continue their partnership with JOHN not only a vocal and instrumental soloist himself but also providing multi-instrumental and harmony support to, as he puts it,  FIONA'S golden voice.
